Retail workers have been heroes of the pandemic. Phil Sawford
I had the opportunity to meet up with Stevie Cassidy at the High Street Co-op to support the USDAW campaign for the safety of shopworkers.
Shopworkers have worked extremely hard to keep our shelves stacked and the tills open to keep our community supplied during the period of the covid pandemic. Some people in the retail industry have needed to ‘shield’ others, with young families, have had issues of home schooling but despite this they have worked hard and possibly put themselves at risk to ensure essential supplies have been available.
During this difficut time too many shop workers across the country have been subjected to verbal abuse and even threats. I would like to say this does not happen in Desborough but sadly it has.
As we approach the Christmas period we know there are problems with the supply chain and this could mean shortages in the shops but please remember this is not the fault of the shop workers and let us all pledge to treat them with respect.
Abuse is not part of the job.
