‘A New Heart for Desborough’

A document, produced by Kettering Borough Council in 2004, offered an exciting vision for the future of the town centre

What was the vision? (the list below is taken from the document)

  • Improved street lighting
  • Improvements to public transport in the town
  • Higher quality new development and new architectural image
  • Better parking including on-street parking
  • Provision of a family pub and other facilities
  • More green areas/parks
  • A new public square and better area for the market
  • A new public/civic building
  • Leisure facilities for the young including cafe
  • Better pedestrian environment
  • Provide for a railway station
  • Improvement grants and resources
  • Create a framework plan
  • Protect retail units and maximise potential of Station Road
  • Improve town centre retail offer including new supermarket and develop factory shops complex
  • Develop derelict sites
  • Locate police station in town centre
  • New market square with public art
  • Landmark community building marking entrance into the core of the town (library, council offices, police station)
