‘A New Heart for Desborough’
A document, produced by Kettering Borough Council in 2004, offered an exciting vision for the future of the town centre
What was the vision? (the list below is taken from the document)
- Improved street lighting
- Improvements to public transport in the town
- Higher quality new development and new architectural image
- Better parking including on-street parking
- Provision of a family pub and other facilities
- More green areas/parks
- A new public square and better area for the market
- A new public/civic building
- Leisure facilities for the young including cafe
- Better pedestrian environment
- Provide for a railway station
- Improvement grants and resources
- Create a framework plan
- Protect retail units and maximise potential of Station Road
- Improve town centre retail offer including new supermarket and develop factory shops complex
- Develop derelict sites
- Locate police station in town centre
- New market square with public art
- Landmark community building marking entrance into the core of the town (library, council offices, police station)
